Start with the product idea and intended use
An ODM brief can begin with a sketch, reference garment, moodboard, competitor sample or a description of the customer and activity the product should serve. The first step is to define what the garment needs to do, how it should fit and which visual details make it part of the collection.
The development discussion then turns that direction into decisions about silhouette, panels, neckline, sleeves, pockets, trims, fabric weight, stretch, ventilation and decoration. The goal is not to force the idea into a fixed stock style, but to clarify the details required for a workable sample.
Development questions buyers can bring
- Product use, customer, fit direction and size range
- Reference garments, sketches, artwork or collection moodboards
- Fabric hand feel, GSM, stretch, breathability and care needs
- Panels, trims, pockets, closures, labels and finishing details
